About Alon Kahana

About the Provider

Alon Kahana, MD, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology, is an ophthalmic reconstructive plastic surgeon serving the greater Detroit-Ann Arbor area. He also serves as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Ophthalmology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. His entire professional career has been focused on making a difference, from patient care, to research, to educating the next generation. Over the course of his career, he has become known throughout the state, the Midwest and beyond as an oculoplastic and orbital surgeon of last resort - the destination for the most challenging eyelid and orbital disorders. Patients travel from all over the country to the Metro Detroit area to seek his opinion and surgical expertise. His areas of interest are thyroid orbitopathy, orbital tumors and disease, congenital eyelid and socket disorders, orbital vascular anomalies, eyelid cancer, and reconstructive oculoplastic surgery. He believes that every eyelid and facial surgery is, by definition, cosmetic. The eyes are the 'window to the soul,' and his goal is to make patients happy and even excited about the results of their surgery, be it reconstructive or cosmetic. His overarching goal is to take care of every patient as if he or she were a member of his own family.
