I grew up surrounded by physician parents and grandparents. I admired their empathy and hard work, and I wanted to be just like them. Today, as a pediatric nephrologist, my clinical interests include acute kidney injury, extracorporeal therapies (like acute dialysis), and teaching residents and medical students.

One of my core values is transparency. When patients and families ask me about their prognosis and next steps, I answer honestly, discussing all the possible scenarios and outcomes. I try to be a step ahead and share my thoughts about potential courses of action during our appointments, even if it’s the first time we meet. I want patients and families to know what I’m looking for and what to expect — no surprises.

Taking care of kids and being part of their families is the most rewarding part of my job. I love when kids are comfortable enough to share their fears and concerns, and I try to listen and share openly and honestly, even when the road is bumpy and things don’t go as expected. I will always work very hard to give them the best care possible.
