Firas Zahwe, MD is a board-certified cardiologist and electrophysiologist that provides comprehensive and compassionate care for a variety of heart rhythm related conditions. Dr. Zahwe is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Zahwe also received fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.Dr. Zahwe uses a patient-centered approach to health care, encouraging patients to participate in making decisions about their heart-related conditions with his support and guidance. He is known for his compassion and his expertise in the latest technology in electrophysiology. Using customized treatment plans, Dr. Zahwe strategizes methods to resolve patient's symptoms, improve patient's quality of life and prevent the development of life-threatening conditions.After earning his medical degree from the Tishreen University Faculty of Medicine in Syria, Dr. Zahwe completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He went on to complete his two fellowships at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was trained by Dr. Massod Akhter, who is one of the pioneers in electrophysiology.Dr. Zahwe treats a wide range of heart rhythm related conditions using the latest technology and techniques in the field. He provides complex arrhythmia mapping and ablation including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular arrhythmia; non-pharmacological stroke management and prevention including left atrial appendage occlusion and exclusion devices; advanced lead and device management including ICD and pacemaker implantation, biventricular device implantation/cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), subcutaneous ICD implantation, leadless pacemaker, venoplasty and laser lead extraction.In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Zahwe is passionate about atrial fibrillation screening, prevention, and management.Dr. Zahwe is passionate about research and interested in clinical research studies to improve patient care including local studies and multicenter national clinical trials.
