About the Provider
Dr. Selber is a Physician Executive and the Surgery Service Line Chief of Beaumont, where he also serves as Professor of Plastic Surgery. In this role, Dr. Selber is responsible for all surgical activities within the Beaumont System, including 8 hospitals and the work of around 2,000 surgeons, both employed and community providers. He reports directly to the President and his Executive Leadership Team. Responsibilities include contracting and compensation, strategy, recruitment, quality and safety, research and education and programmatic development.In his previous job, Dr. Jesse Selber was most recently the Acting Chair, the Director of Clinical Research and a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He served as faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center for 15 consecutive years.Dr. Selber received his undergraduate education at Brown University with a major in Studio Art and Premed. After receiving his Medical Doctorate from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Selber completed a Master of Public Health at Harvard followed by a plastic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2008-2009, he completed a fellowship in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Selber was recruited to the Department of Plastic Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center where he rose to the rank of Professor in 10 years. He was appointed Vice Chair of the Department in 2018 and Acting Chair in 2022. Dr. Selber was intimately involved in MD Anderson's geographic expansion effort. He helped launch and was the Director of MD Anderson at Cooper for 6 years, as well as helped shape other national and international partnerships and consulting arrangements.Dr. Selber's clinic practice is exclusively complex cancer reconstruction. He is a surgical innovator, developing numerous techniques, including all the existing robotic applications in plastic surgery and the only robotic plastic surgery textbook, published in 2020. He is the Founder and Executive Board Member of the Robotic Assisted Microsurgical and Endoscopy Society (RAMSES). He is director of the Composite Tissue Allotransplantation in the Texas Medical Center and performed the world's first scalp, skull, kidney and pancreas transplant in 2015, and the world's first identical twin transplantation for large scale cancer reconstruction in 2017. Dr. Selber returned to the Harvard School of Public Health to earn a Master of Health Care Management in 2018-2020 in order to enhance his leadership capabilities.Dr. Selber is an accomplished clinical researcher and writer. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications, numerous book chapters and other publications, given over 350 national and international presentations and serves on three editorial boards and is an editor for 7 peer-reviewed journals. He authored his own textbook on Robotic Applications in Plastic Surgery, the only textbook on this subject. He also has developed surgical instruments that are sold globally and bear his name. He has served as the Plastic Surgery Foundation's Clinic Study Section Chair. Dr. Selber is a member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and Operation Smile, is a Founding Member of United to Cure a non-profit to extend pediatric oncology care to underserved, vulnerable populations, and is an Executive Board Member of the Schwartz Foundation, a philanthropic group focusing on a diverse set of priorities in underserved children.
