About L. Kate Gowans
About the Provider
Kate Gowans, MD, has been practicing pediatric hematology/oncology since 2000 when she began her fellowship training. She is the Section Head Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adults Hematology and Oncology at Corewell Health. When she began her career, the phrase 'adolescent and young adult oncology' didn't even exist. She, and the team at Corewell Children's, were excited to have Corewell's Adolescent and Young Adult Program (AYA) created through a generous donation by the Gilbert family. Its purpose is to provide the necessary support to the AYA population, in the form of cutting-edge treatments, access to AYA specific clinical trials, and outstanding psychosocial support.
LGBTQIA+ Safe & Affirming
To earn the "Safe and Affirming" designation, providers individually complete an online training program which includes modules developed by the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center. For more information, click here.

Took time to speak to me personally about life in general which was very much appreciated.

Fantastic! Kind, caring, thorough and patient. She sat and took time to connect, shared her knowledge and experience but ultimately acknowledged that parents know their kids best and allowed in shared decision making. She was incredible and I feel very comfortable with my son in her care.
