Mary J Freyer, NP

I was in a major accident in college and spent a long time in the hospital. I was so inspired by the nurses who cared for me that I switched my major from history and math to nursing, and eventually went on to become nurse practitioner. I was the very first pediatric nurse practitioner at Butterworth Hospital, and I’ve been here ever since.

As a specialist in pediatric oncology and hematology, I care for children with a wide range of cancers and blood disorders. I am deeply passionate about cancer care and have a lot of experience with leukemia in particular.

Patient care brings me so much joy. I love working with my team, building relationships with my patients and their families, and making a difference in their lives. I know in my heart that this is what I was meant to do.

To earn the "Safe and Affirming" designation, providers individually complete an online training program which includes modules developed by the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center. For more information, click here.
