I went into health care because I wanted to make a difference. Primary care specifically gives me the opportunity to improve people’s understanding of health at the grassroots level.

My approach to care is looking at the patient through a holistic lens — taking account of the whole person, their family, and their environment. Our surroundings influence our health in profound ways, and this is one of the reasons I enjoy making house calls: it gives me the opportunity to meet patients in their own environment.

Patients often say to me, “You have a beautiful accent! Where are you from?” And this usually becomes an ice breaker that leads to a longer conversation. When I share about my history and culture, it often helps patients relax, and this leads to better care. Giving patients the care they need brings me great joy.
