About Shontreal M Cooper

About the Provider

I was drawn to maternal-fetal medicine because I wanted to support people during moments that really matter in their lives. I’m especially passionate about high-risk pregnancy care, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal growth abnormalities, complex prenatal diagnoses, and postpartum health. In addition to clinical care, I’m also passionate about mentoring residents and improving access to high-quality care for women across different communities.

My approach to care is collaborative. I believe in explaining things clearly, walking through options, and making decisions together. I don’t rush through concerns, especially in high-risk situations where anxiety can be high. I also remind patients that they’re not going through this alone; we’re monitoring closely, adjusting care as needed, and supporting them every step of the way. While I practice evidence-based medicine, I tailor that to each patient’s individual situation, values, and goals.

I find a lot of meaning in building trust with my patients. Of course, there’s nothing like seeing a healthy mom and baby at the end of a high-risk pregnancy. But even on the harder days, knowing that I am able to provide clarity, reassurance, or simply be present for someone when they need it most is incredibly fulfilling.
