Yi Jia Chu, MD

Dr. Chu is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied Molecular Biology and conducted research in antibody-directed novel therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative disease. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2010, when he graduated with honors and stayed in Ann Arbor to complete both his residency training in Anesthesiology and fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospitals prior to moving to Grand Rapids.

Dr. Chu is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the spine, central and peripheral nervous system, musculoskeletal system and associated chronic pain conditions. He has special interest in advanced interventional therapies for chronic pain including, minimally invasive spine procedure such as MILD, Vertiflex, Intracept, and SI Fusion.  He is also a leader in the field of neuromodulation for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain syndromes.  Given his extensive training at a large tertiary medical center specializing in complex patients, he embraces a comprehensive multi-modal approach to pain management to maximize his patients' level of function and comfort.
